Open 2009: Woods 5-2 for fourth Claret Jug as punters side with Americans

PUNTERS are piling into the Americans to take the Claret Jug back across the Atlantic, with 5-2 favourite Tiger Woods predictably the main target for their wagers.

Ladbrokes reported a 10,000 single bet on the World No 1 and have also seen each-way interest in countrymen Kenny Perry, Steve Stricker and Sean O'Hair. Spokesman Nick Weinberg said: "We have never been this big about the field (Tiger Woods, then 33-1 and upwards the rest). Woods is the overwhelming favourite and the few punters who have not been wooed by him are siding with his countrymen."

A special mention should go to Scottish internet betting firm McBookie.com, who will pay out on the first seven places.

Woods is their 13-5 clear favourite, while McBookie also offer 40-1 that there will be a Scottish winner.
