Onions ruled out of Test with injury
ENGLAND bowler Graham Onions was ruled out of the first Test against Bangladesh with a back injury yesterday.
The Durham paceman picked up the problem during net practice after joining up with the one-day international squad. But fellow seamer Stuart Broad was one step closer to being declared fit for the first Test, which got under way overnight, despite struggling with spasms after injuring his back during the one-day international series.
Broad bowled a total of ten overs during England's practice session in Chittagong yesterday without feeling any discomfort and was due to be reassessed ahead of the match.
Bangladesh batsman Roqibul Hasan made a shock decision to retire from all forms of cricket due to "personal reasons" on the eve of the series but the BCB said the talented 22-year-old's resignation had not been accepted. The home side have omitted Mohammad Ashraful, their most capped player, because of a lack of form.
