Olympics: Olympic kit in post as Hannah Miley scores a double
Hannah Miley gave up a trip to London to receive her Olympic kit in order to compete at the Scottish Gas National Open Championships. But she reckoned she made the right decision after winning the 200m individual medley and 200m backstroke at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh.
The Inverurie 22-year-old will be a medal contender in the 440m individual medley in London, and she admitted there was a fleeting moment of envy when she saw pictures of her team-mates in the GB outfits.
“But I have really enjoyed swimming here,” she said after posting winning times of 2:12.82 in the medley and 2:14.81 in the backstroke in the newly-renovated £37m Edinburgh venue. “I always felt it was an advantage to come here and swim,” she said. “My kit will be in the post.”
Warrender’s Lewis Smith won the 400m freestyle in 3:55.25. England’s Ryan Bennett swam an impressive 55.01 to win the 100m backstroke ahead of Warrender’s 20-year-old Craig McNally.
In the women’s 100m breaststroke, there was a clean sweep for Edinburgh University. Corris Scott won in 1:09.21, Kathryn Johnstone was second in 1:09.60 and Andrea Strachan took the bronze in 1:10.95.
