O'Sullivan surprises himself with win over Fu in Glasgow

RONNIE O'Sullivan admitted he was shocked after reaching the quarter-finals of the Royal London Watches Grand Prix in Glasgow with an emphatic victory over Marco Fu.

The Rocket powered to a 5-1 win over the defending champion at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, taking revenge over his Hong Kong opponent, who beat him 9-6 in last season's Grand Prix final.

O'Sullivan, 32, said: "Marco's a top player. He seems to play well against me. When he gets confident and gets on a roll, he's pretty much unstoppable, so I was surprised that I won.

"I knew I wasn't playing great, so I tried to adopt a cautious approach. I played some hard match snooker. I'm fairly happy with that performance, but I'm still surprised I won because I expected to lose. I could be rubbish in my next match."

Peter Ebdon missed a 147 break as he was knocked out at the last-16 stage by Jamie Cope. Ebdon lost 5-4, with defeat hard to swallow having broken down on 122 with the 24,000 highest break prize in sight.

A missed green to a corner pocket denied Ebdon the 65th maximum in snooker history.
