The man portrayed in the painting by Paolo Veronese - titled Portrait of A Gentleman - bears an astonishingly close resemblance to Keane, right down to the grey-streaked beard - but possibly not the ermine fur-lined clothes.

Dating from around 1550-1560, the painting hangs in the Galleria Palatina in Florence, although the identity of the man is unknown.

Along with Tintoretto and Titian, he is considered one of the ‘great trio of painters that dominated Venetian painting’ in the late 16th century.

The doppelganger was spotted by Reddit users and posted on various forums on the site, including a Manchester United section.
