Music Note can be a big hit
MUSIC Note can continue the worldwide resurgence of Godolphin by stealing the show in the Ladies' Classic on the opening day of the Breeders' Cup fixture at Santa Anita this evening.
Sheikh Mohammed's team have nabbed ten Group 1 events around the globe this year and with all of those coming since August, trainer Saeed bin Suroor certainly has his team in tip-top order.
The famous royal-blue silks will be carried by Cocoa Beach and Music Note in the feature of tonight's card – which British viewers can watch live on At The Races – but it is the latter who can complete a three-timer under Rajiv Maragh. The four-year-old was behind Zenyatta and Cocoa Beach in the Ladies' Classic 12 months ago, but has shown improved form since her June return to clean up on both of her subsequent outings.
The AP Indy filly has proven herself on a synthetic surface and can get the better of prolific winner Careless Jewel, with John Gosden's Rainbow View also fancied to make the frame.
Godolphin have brought a strong team to California, and St Leger winner Mastery can gift Frankie Dettori a ninth Breeders' Cup victory in the Marathon.
A Henry Cecil victory would ensure a raucous vocal reaction from those Britons who have travelled the 5,600 miles to be here. Indeed, the legendary trainer has the answer to the Filly & Mare Turf with Midday. Cecil admitted he left the Oaks runner-up "undercooked" when she was beaten in France on Arc weekend, but her previous win at Glorious Goodwood lifts her head and shoulders clear of the opposition.
The talk around the barns this week has given Lillie Langtry supporters plenty of hope, and the recent Newmarket winner can land the Juvenile Fillies' Turf.
