Murray beats Twell for Scots 1-2 in trial

CROSS-COUNTRY: Freya Murray declared herself ready to take on the best of the best after an impressive victory at the UK World Cross-Country trials in Birmingham on Saturday.

Murray maintained her brilliant form to hold off Steph Twell to lead home a Scottish 1-2 and book her place at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz in a fortnight's time.

The 26-year-old credits her Colorado-based mentor, former London marathon winner Steve Jones, for her new-found consistency and will now go to Poland looking to make a genuine impact.

"I know Steph is at that level so it's nice to feel I can compete with her and that I have another win under my belt," Murray said. "Steve keeps saying to me that I am one of the best but it's hard to think of yourself like that. I'm not a naturally confident person but now I will be going over to the worlds with plenty of confidence.
