Motorsport: Dario Franchitti vows to fight to the finish

MOTORSPORT: Dario Franchitti has refused to give up on another IndyCar title despite needing a win tomorrow in Toronto to stay in the hunt.

Dario Franchitti has refused to give up on another IndyCar title despite needing a win tomorrow in Toronto to stay in the hunt.

The Scot, who has suffered all manner of misfortune this term, sits 70 points behind Penske’s Will Power in the rankings with time beginning to run out.

Franchitti needs another repeat of last year’s victory at the street circuit if he is to eat into Power’s lead and give himself a chance in the run-in.

He believes that is not beyond him and admits he is surprised to still be in contention, after all the troubles of 2012 so far.

“Mathematically we are still definitely in the race which is somewhat surprising given some of the mechanical failures and issues we have had this year.

“But we are still in the fight and we’ll be fighting all the way to the finish.”
