McNish wins Le Mans series title
SCOTLAND'S Allan McNish sealed the American Le Mans Series title in style with victory at Mosport in Canada on Sunday night.
The 36-year-old from Dumfries, and Audi co-driver Rinaldo Capello, secured the title with two races still to go thanks to a faultless race from second on the grid. The pair become the first drivers to win a world-class championship with diesel power to cap a season of success for Audi's new car.
McNish said: "I am very pleased that Dindo and I have wrapped up the drivers' title in such a hard race and ultimately the sixth victory for the new Audi.
"I had a good race with Butch Leitzinger in the Dyson Lola after taking over from Dindo, who had driven a superb stint to take the lead, but I ran wide and he slipped ahead.
"Thankfully I almost immediately had the opportunity to re-take the lead. The Dyson Lolas were quicker than us and we had to rely on good pit and race strategy."
Audi's new diesel-powered car has won all six of the races it has entered this year, including the Le Mans 24 Hours.
