Di Resta on form at Le Mans
SCOT Paul di Resta took a massive step towards clinching the European Formula 3 Championship when he stretched his lead from four points to 15 after a stunning performance in the double-header at Le Mans in France.
The 20-year-old from Bathgate, tipped to progress to Formula 1 and part of the Mercedes-Benz Young Driver Development Programme, won the opening race. The talented youngster followed that by finishing sixth in yesterday's second counter having started from eighth on the reversed gird.
"This has been a stunning weekend for me," said Di Resta, who heads to the final round at Hockenheim as favourite to win Europe's premier single-seater championship.
"Winning the first race was crucial for me, especially starting from fifth on the grid. I managed to work my way through the field and once I got in front then I just had to concentrate on not making any mistakes."
• Broxburn-based Ferrari team Scuderia Ecosse maintained their winning record in the World FIA GT Championship when Bathgate's Marino Franchitti powered his Ferrari F430GT to victory in the latest round at Adria near Venice.
