California success caps dream season for McNish
ALLAN McNish brought the curtain down on his American Le Mans Series title-winning season in magnificent fashion with victory at Laguna Seca.
McNish and co-driver Dindo Capello steered their diesel-powered Audi to a seventh outright win, and eighth in the LM P1 class, after a four-hour race in California.
"It was a thrilling race, from start to finish and never an easy moment," said McNish.
"We had a number of brushes with other cars, more than in any other ALMS race this season, including a stop-go penalty for an unfortunate situation - the incident was no one's fault.
"It is a superb way to end a phenomenal season."
The Anglo-Italian pairing will tonight receive their ALMS drivers' title at an awards ceremony in Monterey.
Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro finished second in the sister Audi after recovering from 26th when an in-car camera component slipped in to the footwell, forcing a pit-stop after just 11 minutes.
