Motherwell deny approaching McCall over job vacancy
MOTHERWELL have denied making an approach to Partick Thistle manager Ian McCall about replacing Mark McGhee.
McGhee looks set to join Aberdeen after Fir Park chiefs reluctantly gave the Dons permission to hold talks with their manager. Reports yesterday claimed McCall was in the frame for the potential vacancy at Motherwell and that a formal approach had been made to his agent.
However, the Lanarkshire club have refuted those claims, with chairman John Boyle insisting: "We are in discussions with no-one regarding Mr McCall."
McCall has also been linked with a return to Falkirk, after John Hughes quit for Hibernian yesterday. However, the Partick manager has reportedly been offered a new three-year deal to encourage him to remain at Firhill.
Meanwhile, former Motherwell and Hibs midfielder Brian Kerr is close to signing for Dundee as the Dens Park club continue to flex renewed financial muscle. Clyde striker Pat Clarke is also believed to be on his way to Tayside. Former Scotland midfielder Kerr was with the Dark Blues' likely promotion rivals Inverness Caledonian Thistle for the second half of last season, but has turned down the chance of a long-term stay in the Highlands.
He has been in talks at Dens Park and it is understood he is close to signing up for manager Jocky Scott. Clarke, meanwhile, is one of the players cash-strapped Clyde want off their books and he too has been considering an offer to work under Scott.
The Dens side also remain hopeful of landing Partick Thistle midfielder Gary Harkins in a 100,000 deal. They have already fixed up Richie Hart, Sean Higgins and Tony Bullock for next term.
