City woman lands water safety role

A city woman has landed a major role at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

Carlene McAvoy has been appointed as the new community safety development officer at the charity, which provides training and advice on reducing injuries across a wide 
spectrum.

She will be responsible for analysing the current state of water safety in Scotland, the first time RoSPA has been involved with such a project in Scotland.

Ms McAvoy will also help to enforce existing home safety campaigns, such as the Make It Safe campaign, which helps raise awareness of the sometimes unknown dangers of looped blind cords.

Ms McAvoy, who is currently studying for her MSc in forensic psychology and criminology, said: “I’m excited to be pioneering RoSPA’s water safety work in Scotland and I’m looking forward to working with key organisations to help raise awareness.”
