Snooker: MacGillivray faces Muir in snooker final

  • by MICHAEL GALLACHER

Lothian snooker stars Craig MacGillivray and Ross Muir will meet in the final of Event 3 of the Scottish Main Tour Series tonight.

In the re-arranged tournament, both players cruised through to the final.

Granton’s MacGillivray reached the semi-final without dropping a frame whitewashing Lloyd Condron, John Malcolm and Alloa’s Eden Sharav, all 3-0, before dropping a single frame in a 3-1 defeat of Glasgow’s Dylan Craig.

Muir went even better. The former Musselburgh High School pupil defeated Keith Keldie and Barry Campbell (Falkirk), before two stunning victories over on-form Rhys Clark and Michael Collumb, all 3-0, to reach the final without dropping a frame. Collumb, had earlier defeated Edinburgh’s Ross Vallance 3-2 in the last 16.

MacGillivray, the former professional, will start favourite. The Granton player has already won two out of the three Main Tour Events this season, whereas Muir, who wasn’t even born when MacGillivray was turning professional, will be bidding to win his first Main Tour Event title.

The final takes place tonight
at The Red Triangle Snooker
Club in Cumbernauld at
7.30pm over the best of seven frames.

Meanwhile, three times East of Scotland champion, Keith Chalmers (Corstorphine) breezed through to the quarter-finals of this year’s championships in the Bert Demarco Matchroom at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange. Chalmers defeated fellow-Corstorphine player Colin McAlpine 3-0. Defending champion Jamie Jenkins (also Corstorphine), had a comfortable victory over Darren Gilbertson in the opening round of the Billiards Championship.
