A PENICUIK woman is set to trek to the Mount Everest base camp in aid of Help for Heroes.

Laura Wallace, 23, a former Penicuik High School pupil, is one of three Scots taking part in the H4H endeavour between November 4 and 22.

Her 19-year-old brother Christopher is a soldier with the Royal Logistic Corps and next year will head to Afghanistan for his first tour in Helmand.

Laura, who works part-time at Tesco in Penicuik as a customer service assistant, has to raise £3800 to take part in the Himalayan challenge and so far has collected £1400 through bag packing at Tesco, selling Help for Heroes wristbands and sponsorship from family and friends.

A concert in Shottstown Miners’ Club recently took place and there will be a second concert at the Craigiebield House Hotel in Penicuik on September 2.
