Longniddry’s Paul Van Rietvelde has received a late call-up for the BWF World Championships in Guangzhou, China, from August 4-11.
The 21-year-old badminton ace and England’s Marcus Ellis have been added to the men’s doubles following the third phase of the Badminton World Federation eligibility process. The 2010 Commonwealth Games athlete is ranked No. 37 in the world with Ellis and the pair have been rewarded with a world championship chance following their December triumph at the Yonex Welsh Open and another victory at the Forza Denmark International last month.
Van Rietvelde is the sixth Scottish selection – Imogen Bankier, Alistair Casey, Kirsty Gilmour, Martin Campbell and Patrick MacHugh were all named earlier this week.
