Montgomerie keeps himself in contention with fourth place going into last round at Cairo
COLIN Montgomerie shares fourth place heading into the closing round of the Egyptian Open at the Mirage City club in Cairo. Europe's Ryder Cup skipper posted a three-under-par 69 for a six-under aggregate of 210 and sits three behind 54-hole leader Steven Tiley.
Monty, sharing ninth spot at the start of round three, made a move on the frontrunners with birdies at the fifth and ninth. He responded to dropped shot at the 11th, with back-to-back birdies at 13 and 14 to keep himself in the title hunt.
Fife's former Scottish Amateur champion George Murray finished in a tie for 11th on a three-under 213.
At the head of the field, Englishman Tiley fired a four-under 68 for a nine-under 207 to lead by two shots from Switzerland's Andre Bossert and Christoph Gunther of Germany.
Janice Moodie hit back from an opening 75 with a fine second round of 70 and was tied for 59th place on one over par with a round to play at the LPGA Tour's Mizuno Classic in Japan.
South Korean Bo Bae Song shot a great 65 and led outright on 11 under par, one ahead of Japan's Akane Iijima, who went one better with a 64, and another Korean, In-Kyung Kim.
At the Korean Masters on the Ladies' European Tour, Musselburgh rookie Vikki Laing, the only Scot to make the cut, shot a second-round 73 for seven over par and was in joint 54th place.
South Korean players dominated the leaderboard with Soo-Jin Yang (71) and Sarah Lee (72) sharing a one-stroke lead on three under par.
Sam Torrance's hopes of winning the European Senior Tour Order of Merit remain alive after a one-under-par 71 in the second round of the OKI Castellon Senior Tour Championship. The Scot lies in fifth place, four shots behind leader Angel Franco.
