Michie's cup final winner makes up for injury woe

SCOTT Michie defied 14 months of injury troubles to win the Fosters Highland League Cup final for Inverurie Locos with a moment of sheer magic in a 2-1 extra-time triumph.

The former Aberdeen striker has been toiling for full match fitness since ending 12 months on the sidelines back in March.

But having sprung from the bench in normal time, the 25- year-old had enough in reserve to flummox two Fraserburgh defenders as he cut inside to score with a shot fit to win any cup final after 108 minutes and secure the trophy for the second year running.

The former Dons, Peterhead and Montrose front man said: "I don't score many goals with my left foot.

That's the first final I have taken part in at this club as I've missed out with injuries."

Fraserburgh had the better of the first half, but the deadlock wasn't shattered until a Richie Singer cross from the right was met 12 yards out by Kenny Coull, who scored with a classy header full of power after 100 minutes. Fraerburgh's Russell McBride equalised three minutes later with a header.

In the only league fixture played, Wick Academy jumped to fifth in the table after a 2-1 win at Brora. Fort William's home game against Rothes was rained off.
