McGuire handed a tilt at super-middleweight title glory
STEVE McGUIRE from Glenrothes has been handed the chance to win the British title and the Lonsdale belt that goes with it.
The unbeaten Fifer will take on Belfast's Brian Magee, the former IBO super-middleweight champion, on a date yet to be confirmed.
The British super-middleweight title has been a jinx weight division thus far to all eastern Scottish boxers who have sought to win it with Steve Wilson and Willie Quinn both falling short in the 1990s.
The latest bout has been brought about by Carl Froch vacating the title.
"Brian Magee has been around the block and is a veteran while McGuire is young and hungry to win a British title so I think that McGuire has every chance of doing well when they fight," commented McGuire's manager Tommy Gilmour.
