McGeechan's Wasps dealt heavy blow
WHILE Edinburgh made history in France, Ian McGeechan's Wasps hit an ignominious landmark when the Pool 2 rivals were hammered 41-11 in Dublin by Leinster. The runaway pool leaders scored six tries as they inflicted Wasps' heaviest Heineken Cup defeat since 2002.
"Everything is down to what we do in the four remaining games," McGeechan said.
Harlequins set themselves up for a tilt at Pool 4 rivals Stade Francais in December by brushing aside Matt Williams' Ulster 42-21 at the Twickenham Stoop. But the former Scotland coach was unhappy with Welsh referee Tim Hayes, claiming:
"We will put in a report. I don't talk to referees. It's like complaining to your mother-in-law about your wife – it doesn't get you too far."
In the other pool match, Stade Francais recorded a comfortable home 37-15 win against the Scarlets.
Gloucester boss Dean Ryan admitted his team face "a big task" to reach the quarter-finals following their 37-24 Millennium Stadium defeat against Cardiff Blues in Pool 6.
In the other Pool 6 game, Biarritz easily dispatched Calvisano 41-10.
Meanwhile, in Pool 3, Leicester appear to be cruising towards the last eight, emphasised by a 60-16 stroll past Italian hosts Treviso.
Perpignan, Leicester's next opponents, lost 15-9 against the Ospreys as the Welsh side again failed to score a try. In Pool 1, Munster won 24-16 at Sale and Montauban went down 24-19 to visitors Clermont-Auvergne, while in Glasgow's Pool 5, Bath beat Newport/Gwent 13-9.
