McEwan reveals how Hopkins can beat Calzaghe
EDINBURGH pro boxer Craig McEwan revealed today how American ring legend, Bernard Hopkins intends to beat Welsh world super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe on April 19.
McEwan, formerly of the Clovenstone club in Wester Hailes, is now based in Las Vegas. Like Calzaghe, he is a southpaw, and has been sparring with Hopkins for the last six weeks.
"I've been imitating Joe's style every day, which means I've been attacking Hopkins to the body just like Calazaghe does after throwing a jab," said McEwan.
"That's what Hopkins plans to do with Calzaghe, take the play away from him by beating Joe to the punch every time. They both move the action to the inside, which Hopkins believes will be the key to victory."
McEwan was expecting to fight on the Hopkins/Calzaghe undercard, but his next fight will now be on May 3 against Dave Forbes.
Meanwhile, McEwan's father, Rab, is staging a ten-bout show this Sunday at the Greenway Community Centre in Wester Hailes featuring Sparta featherweight Dave Cowan against Clovenstone's Gordon Izzat, while Clovenstone veteran Danny Forrest will clash with Sparta lightweight Tony James.
Boxing will commence at around 1pm.
