McDonald wants Oldies to stay in touch
EUROPEAN Golden Oldies president Dave McDonald is out to ensure that Scottish rugby has a lasting legacy from the week-long festival drawing to a close in Edinburgh.
Says McDonald: "There are 19 Scottish teams participating and, when the festival ends, the aim is to hold a meeting to ensure that some sort of structure – not necessarily a league – is put in place to maintain regular contact between the players.
"This festival has drawn a number of former players back to rugby and it is important now that they have tasted Golden Oldies rugby to encourage them to remain involved and enjoy further opportunities."
Around 3000 players are taking part in 125 teams from as far apart as Alaska and the Cook Islands.
McDonald, from Aberdeen, added: "I'm tremendously proud that Scotland is now the first country to have hosted both world and European golden oldies festivals."
