McCormack keen to rejoin Arthur's team
LOCHEND boxing club supremo Terry McCormack confirmed today that he and former WBO super-featherweight champion Alex Arthur are having informal talks with a view to McCormack returning to Arthur's corner as the latter prepares to launch his campaign at lightweight on March 14.
Confirmed McCormack: "I was his coach and chief cornerman in 2002-03 when Arthur only lost once against Michael Gomez at Meadowbank. So I told Alex that, subject to our current negotiations being successfully concluded, I'm keen to get back in his corner on March 14.
"Alex has actually been sparring nearly every day in my Lochend gym since the turn of the year and he is already looking sharp. We had a good working relationship before and I'm sure we can do so again."
Capital ace Arthur said: "I hope that Terry will link up with me again as my first bout is going to be crucial with all eyes upon me to see how I actually shape up in the lightweight division."
Meanwhile, a flare-up of an old left elbow injury has forced Leith Victoria heavyweight Steve Simmons to pull out of the Scottish international team due to box in Germany next week in the Multi-Nations Chemistry Cup tournament.
Lochend's Scottish light-welterweight champion John Thain will box in the tournament while Fauldhouse light-welterweight Robbie McKee will box for Scotland against Finnish hosts on January 30.
