Mark McGhee determined to prove doubters wrong

ABERDEEN manager Mark McGhee insists recent criticism has simply "steeled" him to prove his detractors wrong.

Aberdeen are winless in ten matches in all competitions after their latest loss, Wednesday's 1-0 reverse at St Johnstone. The Pittodrie manager has now ruled out a top-six finish in the SPL and believes salvaging pride from a barren season should be his team's main motivation.

After also overseeing cup losses to Dundee and Raith this season, fans have vented their anger towards McGhee, with the 52-year-old claiming he was spat at by his own support after the recent loss to Raith. He said: "I've got to always look at my own performance and ask the players to do the same.

"But, as long as I can look myself in the mirror, then I think I don't need to stay awake at night worrying about whether my job is under threat.

"The amount of criticism I've had in the last month has just absolutely steeled me to do everything I can to turn it around. What has disappointed me is that some people have had doubts that possibly I'm able to do that.

"I think I've proven wherever I've been to be successful and I don't see why I shouldn't be successful here. The fact I've not been successful in my first season I don't think is the end of it."
