Ma-Kalambay set for talks over future at Hibs
HIBS goalkeeper Yves Ma-Kalambay has revealed he'll be seeking talks regarding his future as he goes into the final few months of his contract at Easter Road.
Signed by former boss John Collins from Chelsea on a three-year deal, Ma-Kalambay has, as yet, no idea if he'll be offered a new deal when it expires at the conclusion of this season.
Although he'd be free to talk to other clubs under freedom of contract next month, the former Belgian Under-21 internationalist today made it clear his preference would be to remain with Hibs.
The 23-year-old said: "Of course I want to stay here, this is the club that gave me the opportunity as a youngster and I will always be grateful. Hibs are definitely in my heart, it is here I played my first match."
Since his arrival in Edinburgh Ma-Kalambay has gone on to make 60 appearances for Hibs following his debut in a 1-0 win over Capital rivals Hearts at Tynecastle. Having initially competed with Andy McNeill for the gloves, Ma-Kalambay has latterly found himself sitting on the bench following the summer arrival of the much-travelled Graham Stack.
However, he was recalled to action as a substitute in the weekend win over Falkirk after Stack suffered a back injury and he's hoping that will lead to further chances to persuade boss John Hughes to prolong his stay in Edinburgh.
Ma-Kalambay has expressed frustration and disappointment at having lost his place after Hibs won their opening two SPL matches and that situation is sure to play a part in any talks with the club.
But Ma-Kalambay insisted any talking will be done behind closed doors.
He said: "I just want to know what is going to happen to me but so far nothing has been said.
"I am sure there will be talks to sort out my future but it will be between Hibs, me, my agent and my family to see what is best."
