Lions scoring record drives on Russell
Livingston may have wrapped up the Second Division title but striker Iain Russell still has a target to aim for as Ayr United visit the Braidwood Stadium tomorrow.
Russell has netted 21 times so far this term and requires just two more to break the club's all-time scoring record for a season, currently held by Leigh Griffiths, who notched 22 in the First Division two seasons ago.
Russell, who has been named on the shortlist for the PFA Scotland's Second Division player of the year award, identified the comeback at home to East Fife in January as a key moment for the champions.
That victory helped spark a run of 14 league wins out of 16. "The turning point was maybe the home match against East Fife when we went 3-2 down with ten minutes to go before scoring two late goals to come back and win it. That gave us a lift."
Depending on other results, Ayr could clinch their play-off spot tomorrow or on Tuesday when they visit the Braidwood Stadium again.
Meanwhile, the Lions have received a major boost by agreeing a new two-year deal with main sponsors Fasteq.
