Lions aiming to tie up title procession

LIVINGSTON could become the first professional team in Britain to win their league this season if they beat Stenhousemuir at Ochilview tomorrow.

Livingston are 18 points clear of second-place Brechin, the only side who can still catch them, and the Glebe Park men can only harvest a maximum 21 points from their remaining seven games. That means the Lions would claim the Second Division title if they win and Brechin slip up at home to East Fife, while a point will be enough to seal it if the Angus side lose.

However, Livingston manager Gary Bollan warned: "We haven't achieved anything yet and we'll only start celebrating when we have."

With Bollan's team on a run of 13 victories from 14 games, Brechin manager Jim Weir admitted: "The mathematics tell us it is still possible but that's championship-winning form and if they win the championship then it will be well deserved."

Livi will be aiming to make it a perfect 12 points from their four games against Stenny this season after notching a 2-1 victory at Ochilview last month.

Meanwhile, two of the club's brightest young stars have signed new contracts. Goalscoring midfielder Dean Cummings and playmaker Stefan Scougall have both signed fresh two-year deals running up to May 2013. Scougall, 18, has already made two substitute appearances for the first team while Cummings, also 18, has been in the matchday squad on several occasions.

Bollan said: "Both lads have bags of potential so we're delighted to get them on new contracts. They are talented lads who have impressed in the under-19s and the challenge for them is to push for a place in the first team."
