Levein happy to pip Pars

DUNDEE UNITED manager Craig Levein was glad to avoid being on the wrong end of a shock after his side won through to the semi-finals of the Co-operative Insurance Cup last night with a narrow 1-0 win over Dunfermline at Tannadice.

The Irn-Bru First Division side started brightly but Scott Robertson's strike after 15 minutes dampened their enthusiasm and allowed last season's beaten finalists to take a grip on the game. United always had the edge, although they had keeper Lukasz Zaluska to thank for the avoidance of extra-time. The Polish keeper's spectacular save from Stephen Glass' long-distance volley helped the Taysiders through to the last four.

Said Levein: "People will be looking for the romance of the cup where the underdog manages to get through but I thought the best team won."
