League and cup clashes postponed as weather wreaks havoc on fixtures

Tonight's Scottish Cup third round replay between Threave Rovers and Stenhousemuir has been called off as the Meadow Park pitch in Castle Douglas remains frozen.

A fifth attempt to play the tie will be made this Wednesday, 8 December, with a 7.30pm kick off, however that looks to doomed to failure. A Stenhousemuir spokesman said: "We have been informed that the likelihood of the game going ahead on Wednesday is very doubtful unless there is an improvement in the temperature over the next few days."

Six of the ten SFL and Scottish Cup fixtures scheduled for tomorrow have already bitten the dust, with the Fife derby between Cowdenbeath and Dunfermline Athletic postponed despite great efforts to clear the snow from the Central Park pitch and surrounding areas.

A Central Park official said: "An early decision was made having taken the current conditions and the predicted forecast for next few days into consideration. We have now made three attempts to play this game which promised to be a cracker with nearly 3,000 tickets sold. These tickets will be valid for the rescheduled game and a date for this has still to be confirmed."

Partick Thistle's clash with Queen of the South looks set to go ahead with the Firhill pitch protected by undersoil heating, however the other First Division games, Morton v Falkirk and Stirling Albion v Ross County, have been postponed, as has the Second Division match between Dumbarton and Alloa Athletic.

The Third Division match at Cumbernauld between Clyde and Queen's Park has also been postponed. Elgin City v Berwick Rangers was postponed early to save any attempt being made to travel the 480-mile round trip.

The artificial surface at Montrose's Links Park could yet see the home side face East Stirling.

In the Scottish Cup replays, Beith have an 1pm kick-off against Airdrie while Annan are down to take on Brechin City, however both these games are rated as doubtful.
