Late try pushes wasteful Accies towards trap door

Boroughmuir 18 Edinburgh Accies 14

EDINBURGH Accies coach Ian Barnes could not believe his side narrowly lost out to champions Boroughmuir, a defeat which places them in a perilous position in the table.

"I thought we were the better side. We were asking the questions," said Barnes. "That bonus point today could prove crucial, though. It's definitely not over."

An unconverted try from Ian Berthinussen and two David Blair penalties along with a drop-goal from the Edinburgh fly-half were not enough as a last-gasp Ben Fisher try ensured that 'Muir emerged the victors. Centre Elgan O'Donnell had earlier slotted two penalties and the conversion of Euan Mathieson's try on a day when David Cunningham and Graeme McCallum played their last games at Meggetland.

Team manager Grant Wilson insists they will be a big loss. "We'll be sorry to see them go. The boys wanted to end on a high," he said.
