Laing stays firmly on trackat La Manga

MUSSELBURGH'S Vikki Laing moved a step nearer to a place on this season's Ladies' European Tour when she shot a great third day one under par 70 over the testing South course at the pre-qualifying school at La Manga in Spain, writes ELSPETH BURNSIDE.

The 27-year-old US-based pro was comfortably in joint tenth place on four over par in the 103-strong field and was one of four Scots within the cut-off mark to go through to next week's final qualifying at the same venue.

With the top 62 set to advance, Krystle Caithness, the Curtis Cup player from St Regulus, had a 76 over the shorter North course and was joint 32nd on nine over par, Pamela Feggans was tied for 54th on 13 over following a 76 and Kylie Walker scraped into the magic number at 61st after a 75 for 14 over.

Scottish Amateur Champion Michele, the Curtis Cup player from Ellon McDonald, slipped back with an 80 over the South course, but was still within striking range in joint 73rd spot on 16 over par. Emily Ogilvy was on 20 over after a 77 and the final Scot, Karyn Burns, was 95th on 29 over after a 79.

Dutch amateur Christel Boeljon headed the field on seven under par after a best of tournament six under par 65 over the North course.
