Kolobnev faces ban after dope 'B' test is positive
CYCLIST Alexandr Kolobnev's 'B' sample has confirmed his positive doping test during this year's Tour de France.
The 30-year-old Russian was forced to withdraw from the race last Monday after a urine sample taken on 6 July was found to contain the diuretic hydrochlorothiazide.
The Katusha team member, a bronze medallist in the road race at the 2008 Olympics, was the first rider to fail a test during the 2011 tour and he faces faces a two-year ban.
A statement from the sport's governing body, the UCI, read: "Analysis of the 'B' sample of Alexandr Kolobnev's urine has confirmed the result of the adverse analytical finding notified by the anti-doping laboratory following the analysis of sample 'A'.
"In accordance with the anti-doping rules, the UCI will request the Russian Federation to open a disciplinary procedure against the rider."
