Judd rejoins Scotland as assistant coach

TONY Judd is returning to the Scotland set-up, acting as assistant coach and performance analyst. The Australian will work with head coach Peter Steindl, while Adrian Birrell will continue consultancy support as the batting coach.

Since returning from his homeland last year, Judd has been working with the Scotland squads on an ad hoc basis. However, an increase in International Cricket Council support has enabled Cricket Scotland to offer him the role on a part-time basis for the whole of 2009.

Judd was appointed Scotland's head coach in 2003, but stood down after the ICC Intercontinental Cup final triumph in November 2004, deciding against taking up the offer of a full-time position.

Steindl said: "I'm very pleased to have these two guys working with us. It's good to have such a lot of experience behind us as we enter this new era of professionalism in Scottish cricket. We are very lucky to have coaches of Tony's and Adrian's ability."

Judd added: "It's great to be back in harness in support of Pete. We have an important year ahead of us, and I'm looking forward to working with the players once again."

Cricket Scotland chief executive Roddy Smith said: "It is vital that we have the best coaches available driving forward our national programme, and I am delighted that Tony has agreed to join Cricket Scotland's staff."
