Joel Thomas seals quick return to Hamilton
JOEL Thomas has rejoined Hamilton on loan following his summer move to Colchester.
Paul Lambert signed the striker for 125,000, but the former Celtic midfielder left to join Norwich after one game of the season and Thomas made just seven substitute appearances for the Coca-Cola League One play-off hopefuls. The 22-year-old will now face Celtic at New Douglas Park on Sunday if the paperwork is completed in time.
Thomas said: "It will be very good for me to go back and I hope that I will do well there. There have been times where I think I shouldn't have left, but I think I have also been unfortunate here. I was feeling very fit when I arrived, but I haven't had much time to play, so I am very happy to go back to Hamilton and to play some football. I have a contract with Colchester and I am not looking too far into the future. At the moment, all I am thinking about is the next game at Hamilton."
Accies kept their squad size the same after announcing the departure of former Rangers defender Marvin Andrews. The 33-year-old summer signing made only two appearances before being loaned to Queen of the South.
Meanwhile, chairman Ronnie MacDonald has hit out at the "idiots" who directed vitriol against manager Billy Reid and some players following the goalless draw against Kilmarnock.
"Such behaviour has no place within our club and will not be tolerated," said MacDonald in a statement to fans. "The people responsible will be found and banned from attending any future games at New Douglas Park. We are a small club exceeding expectations due to the efforts of all the staff, players, sponsors and fans. Our enjoyment is working together and we will not have our unity and achievements spoiled by moronic behaviour. We had four youngsters in our pool against Kilmarnock and to continue their development they and the senior boys need your encouragement throughout every game."
