Jamie Murray also makes it into last four
JAMIE Murray stayed in the hunt for a second Wimbledon mixed doubles title as he and partner Liezel Huber progressed to the last four.
Murray and Jelena Jankovic teamed up to land their doubles crown in 2007, and the Scot, who followed his brother into a Wimbledon semi-final, could be set for a repeat with Huber, the South Africa-born American.
They beat the sixth seeds Mike Bryan and Bethanie Mattek-Sands 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 on Court Three, an achievement which was further sweetened by the news that their scheduled opponents in the quarter-finals, Lukas Dlouhy and Iveta Benesova from the Czech Republic, had scratched, leaving the Scottish-American team just one match from the final.
Elsewhere in doubles yesterday, the sister act of Serena and Venus Williams reached the semi-finals by defeating Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany and Vania King of the United States 6-2, 7-5.
In the men's doubles quarters, James Blake and Mardy Fish of the United States beat Simon Aspelin of Sweden and Paul Hanley of Australia 7-6 (5), 6-4, 7-6 (5), while Wesley Moodie of South Africa and Dick Norman of Belgium defeated Mahesh Bhupathi of India, and Mark Knowles of the Bahamas 7-6 (9), 4-6, 7-6 (7), 5-7, 6-4.
