Inverness CT 2 - 0 Airdrie United
CALEY Thistle decisively buried their home hoodoo after Dani Sanchez and Eric Odhiambo struck to earn a second successive victory in Inverness. Terry Butcher's men also put their Highland derby misery behind them after the Spaniard's crucial breakthrough in the final minute of the first half.
Airdrie had failed to come from behind in First Division action in the last two and a half years and, true to form, couldn't find a way back.
Thistle's Dougie Imrie cut inside to test Stephen Robertson from 16 yards as home pressure built. Robertson also dealt with a Richie Foran header and parried a Narius Bulvitis strike from the edge of the box after 24 minutes.
Airdrie, though, always looked dangerous on the break.
Sanchez fluffed a chance in front of goal after 32 minutes, but the Caley Thistle attacker's moment was to come. The breakthrough came almost on half-time. Dougie Imrie's angled pass fed Sanchez into the left side of the box and, from a tight angle, the Spaniard poked a shot through Robertson's legs.
Airdrie's dogged resistance took some time to disintegrate, but Richie Foran should have made it 2-0 after 68 minutes. Jonny Hayes' cross picked him out unmarked at the far post but he fluffed the header.
But a minute later, the second arrived with Odhiambo on target just two minutes after entering the fray. The ball broke to the former Leicester City striker just outside the box and he struck with a sweet left foot volley into the far corner.
