In brief: McCarthy rules out Iwelumo exit
WOLVES manager Mick McCarthy has reassured fans that Scotland striker Chris Iwelumo will be going nowhere during the January transfer window.
The 30-year-old's 15 goals this season have helped Wolves to the top of the Championship, and McCarthy said: "If any other clubs come for our best players they will get the same reaction from my chairman, my chief executive and from me. To put it in simple terms, they will be told politely to go away."
Ankle injury keeps Gordon sidelined
SCOTLAND and Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon says he is still weeks away from recovering from his persistent ankle injury.
"I can't really put a time-scale on when I will be back but it looks like it will be a few weeks yet," he said. "I was given a few days away from the training ground last week for a bit of rest."
The injury means Hearts face a further wait to land the latest 330,000 instalment as part of the goalkeeper's 9 million transfer fee.
Sweden call on Larsson – for now
HENRIK Larsson has not decided if he will play on with Swedish club Helsingborg next season but the 37-year-old striker was yesterday named in the Sweden squad for friendlies next month against the United States and Mexico.
Coach Lars Lagerback included the former Celtic and Barcelona player in his initial 22-man party – consisting mainly of players from the domestic league – but said plans could change.
"I have picked the squad according to today's situation," said Lagerback. "Henrik is not 100 per cent decided. But if he is not training in January he obviously won't be coming."
