Ian McCall quits as Partick Thistle manager

IAN McCall today announced that he was resigning as manager of First Division outfit Partick Thistle.

McCall, who has been in charge at Firhill for almost four years, said his decision was based on "personal and professional reasons".

In a statement on the club's website, he said: "This has been the most difficult decision I've ever had to make.

"Living in the West End of Glasgow, Partick Thistle FC has been a huge part of my life.

"I'd like to thank both the players, supporters and the board for their support over the years, and I wish the club all the success for the future".

The 46-year-old had already managed Clydebank, Morton, Airdrie, Falkirk, Dundee United and Queen of the South when he took the Thistle job in 2007.

In his second season at the club, Partick Thistle narrowly missed out on promotion to the SPL, finishing second to St Johnstone.

This season the club have not been in contention for the First Division title and currently sit in sixth place.

Acting Thistle chairman David Beattie said: "It is with great regret I have accepted Ian's resignation as manager of Partick Thistle FC. I fully respect and appreciate Ian's reasons for wishing to leave.

"Personally I'd like to thank Ian for his contribution to the club. He is popular with the supporters, directors and the players and we'll miss him".

As an interim measure, the Jags have appointed former Celtic and Scotland defender Jackie McNamaraas caretaker manager until the end of the season and hewill take up his role with immediate effect.
