I'm so glad I screwed the nut – Griffiths
FORMER Hutchison Vale and Leith Athletic striker Leigh Griffiths is confident he can help fire Livingston to First Division safety.
The 17-year-old from Edinburgh has been handed his opportunity for the Lions by gaffer Mark Proctor, who believes the player, nicknamed Sparky, is something of a gem. Less than 18 months ago Griffiths was turning out for Vale but, after being told by his coach to knuckle down, he has now transformed his career.
"My manager at Vale told me that, If I screwed the nut, I could make it as a player," he told Livingston's matchday magazine. "Looking back then I was a bit of a nutcase, but with his help I have calmed down a lot and it's definitely made a difference."
Griffiths has already scored twice this season and started the last four games for the Lions, who face a tough examination at Dens Park against Dundee tonight.
Griffiths was joined in attack by fellow teenager Chris Malone in the 0-0 draw with Clyde at the weekend. The pair could well start again tonight as striker Steven Craig is still doubtful.
Griffiths added: "I'm confident in my ability to score and, between now and the end of the season, I would like to get a few more."
