Huntly matchwinner calls for a better standard
STUART Soane admits Huntly will have to do much better to earn the right to mix it with the Highland League title favourites.
The former Caley Thistle youngster's late winner moved Dave McGinlay's men into a three-way tie at the top with champions Cove Rangers and much-fancied Deveronvale.
But Soane was scathing of the performance in the 3-2 home victory over league newcomers Turriff and critical of the drop in standards after a seven-goal show the previous week.
The classy midfielder said: "It wasn't a great performance from us. I felt we were very disappointing, especially when you go from how we played last week at Clach – taking a lot of chances to win by a heavy scoreline.
"You'd be looking to continue that form, especially at home, but Turriff were very well organised and made it difficult."
Elsewhere, Strathspey Thistle moved off the bottom of the table with their first ever Highland League win. The league newcomers beat visitors Fort William 4-1 to leave the Lochaber men in bottom spot.
Forres Mechanics hammered Rothes 7-0 with doubles from Ryan Green and Kyle Scott. Lossiemouth lost 2-1 at home to Buckie Thistle while Formartine United beat Brora 2-1.
Fraserburgh's home tie against Clach was rained off.
