Hoy holds off Kenny for title

CHRIS HOY will head for his warm weather training base in Australia with spirits high after showing his class to clinch the overall title in the Sprint Cup at the Rotterdam Six-day Meeting in the Netherlands last night.

The 32-year-old Capital star held a comfortable lead after five days of impressive performances, and went into the closing session needing only to better English rival Jason Kenny to make sure of victory.

Hoy made a cautious start to the programme, finishing third in the Keirin as Theo Bos edged out fellow Dutchman Teun Mulder in a tight finish

The Scot then beat Kenny in the 200 metres time trial just edging out the 20-year-old Englishman in a photo finish.

That result gave Hoy the overall victory by a comfortable margin.
