Horse Racing: Hanagan reigns supreme with six winners at Mussy
FLAT racing's champion jockey Paul Hanagan dominated the two-day holiday fixture at Musselburgh over the weekend, netting a treble on each afternoon.
He booted home 25 winners on the East Lothian track last summer and has a huge following at Musselburgh.
Victories came on course specialist Oddsmaker, Alejandro and Glen's Diamond - the latter pair for his boss Richard Fahey who completed a treble of his own when saddling High Office to win the Musselburgh Gold Cup, the main event on the new fixture.
Hanagan has already built up a double-figure lead in this year's title race and was rewarded with a further three victories yesterday on board Bollodenka and Ventura Sands for Fahey and on Silvanus in the finale.
"This place has become really lucky for me," he said. "All those winners here last year were a big help in becoming champion."
The new fixture was supported by more than 7,000 punters, with just over 3,800 turning up on Saturday despite the incessant rain, while the sun shone brightly on yesterday's family fun day.
"We've had a very good weekend despite the poor weather on Saturday," said racecourse boss Bill Farnsworth. "There was some exciting racing and a very good atmosphere."
