Racing: Musselburgh unveils more prize money

Musselburgh gets its National Hunt season under way with a two-day meeting tomorrow and Friday and has revealed prize money has increased by 32 per cent on last year.

Total prize money over the nine-fixture jumps season has increased from £316,000 to £418,000, with the New Year’s Day meeting offering more than £80,000, while the John Smith’s Cheltenham Trials meeting in February boasts a £90,000 prize pot. There will also be at least one £10,000 feature race at
each of the nine Musselburgh meetings.

Musselburgh general manager Bill Farnsworth said: “I am confident that New Year’s Day at Musselburgh will quickly become a key fixture in the Scottish sporting calendar. It’s got great appeal for our regular racing fans and new racegoers alike.”
