NICKY Henderson is hoping the rain stays away to enhance the chances of his Berkshire raider First In The Queue in the £25,000 feature race at Perth today.

From an initial three entries in the totepool Mobile Text tote to 89660 Summer Champion Hurdle, the Seven Barrows trainer relies on his recent Bangor scorer who carries the colours of Liam Breslin.

Henderson, second with General Millar last year, said: “This horse will cope with the easy side of good but we don’t want it to get too soft. We took a gamble and sent him up to Scotland yesterday and he’s in good form after winning an uncompetitive race a fortnight ago.

“His enthusiastic owner had targeted him at Galway the whole way through but the heavy ground put paid to that plan which was a shame as we had given him a break in the winter for a summer campaign.

“Of the three I had entered he’s the one that will be best suited and full marks to Perth for putting up such a good prize at this time of year. Its decent money so well done to the track who have been rewarded by an open race.”

The extended two mile event sees First In The Queue take on ten rivals including Absinthe, trained by Donald McCain, the trainer of Overturn who landed the corresponding race 12 months ago.

Soul can sparkle for Godolphin with victory in the Betfred Hungerford Stakes at Newbury. The Australian import took a little while to find his feet when making the switch to Saeed bin Suroor’s team but is now back on song.

A Group Two winner in Australia a couple of years ago, he ran a creditable race on his British bow at York in May before really stepping up with a fourth place at Royal Ascot.
