Horse racing: Further Folkestone inspection
TODAY’S meeting at Folkestone is subject to a second inspection at 7:30am.
The decision to check conditions again was made after an initial inspection by officials at 2pm yesterday afternoon.
Clerk of the course Neil Mackenzie Ross said: “We’ve decided to have another look in the morning.
“The course is still unraceable at present, but there is some rain forecast and that would help us a lot.
“A couple of hours of rain could change the situation completely, so I think it would be premature to call it off today.”
Meanwhile, Newbury is looking forward to staging the rearranged Betfair Hurdle fixture on Friday thanks to a thaw over the past couple of days. The meeting should have taken place on Saturday but was abandoned due to snow, which has now melted.
However, the protective covers remain in place with a decision on their removal yet to be made.
“The covers are still on and I’ll be taking them off some time during the week before racing, but as yet I don’t know when,” said clerk of the course Richard Osgood.
“I’m just keeping an eye on the various temperatures. It would be quite nice to give the grass a bit of a breather and the temperatures all week are looking nice and bright and warmer.
“They are talking of plus-3C and plus-4C at night and up to plus-8C and 9C at daytime.
“All the snow has gone and the track is raceable underneath the covers. It’s fine.”
