Goldie horse Los Nadis looking good

Musselburgh stages its final flat fixture of the year on Monday when Los Nadis can deliver for the locals again, writes Joe Rowntree.

The gelding always seems to run well at Musselburgh where he has quite a fan club after gaining five victories on the East Lothian track.

Trained near Glasgow by Jim Goldie, Los Nadis scored on the level here in an amateur riders’ event for the later Peter Monteith in 2010 and took that same event the following summer for Goldie before winning twice back over timber at Perth and signing off with another victory on the level here.

He stayed on strongly to beat stable companion Gordonsville for the prestigious Willie Park Trophy and can stage a repeat performance in the Isle of Skye Blended Scotch Whisky Handicap (3.45), having bounced back to winning form at Ayr recently. The gelding has bags of stamina and loves the mud, so the recent heavy rain has come at just the right time.

Mercer’s Row has a course record which reads 23321 and he can add another victory in the Bestpets Handicap (4.50) over this sharp five furlongs.

The gelding was runner-up here in April before going one better over the course and distance three weeks later and he then followed up at Beverley.

The five-year-old has not been disgraced off higher marks in the interim.

Scottish-based Linda Perratt has her team in good shape and can take the opening Drinks Direct at Batleys Selling Handicap (2.10) with Retreat Content who was runner-up at Ayr recently. The four-year-old was beaten by only a short head in heavy ground there so won’t mind if the mud is flying again and it is worth noting that Dale Swift, who steered him to his only career victory at Ayr last summer, is back on board now.

Amy Ryan is a couple of winners clear at the top of the apprentice table and can boot home another winner for her father – Yorkshire trainer Kevin – on Capaill Liath in the Batleys Scotland Handicap (3.15).

The four-year-old scored three times for Newmarket trainer Michael Bell before being bought for 30,000 guineas at the sales last autumn and was third on this track for current connections in May before winning at Newcastle when Amy did the steering. He has been runner-up on his last two outings.

Selections : 2 10 Retreat Content;
3.15 Capaill Laith; 3.45 Los Nadis;
4.50 Mercers Row.
