INVERLEITH WOMEN’S one-year stay in hockey’s top flight ended yesterday when they were edged 2-1 by Kelburne in a re-arranged game.
The Edinburgh side needed to win by four clear goals to even make the promotion/relegation play-offs.
However, the under-strength side, missing four regulars, had a mountain to climb at Bellahouston when they went 2-0 down at half-time.
Emma McGregor pulled one back six minutes into the second-half, but the Capital combine lacked punch up-front.
Inverleith travelled to Erskine on the previous weekend to play the scheduled first game but the referees ruled that the goals were not of sufficient quality to play the game.
Giffnock now go into the play-offs against either title favourites GHK or Edinburgh-based Watsonians, who currently top the Division Two table.
