Hockey: Scots aces buoyant

SCOTLAND'S men's hockey side head for Belgium this weekend boosted by finishing second to Ireland in the Celtic Cup, writes NIGEL DUNCAN.

New consultant coach Jon Royce has transformed the team and Scotland now play with increased tempo and look a more solid outfit.

Royce, a former Olympic women's coach, saw his new charges beat France and draw with Wales and Ireland over the weekend. And he takes positive vibes from the performances ahead of this weekend's double-header. Royce said: "We've got a lot more flow and the movement of the team was good. It's work in progress but I'm heartened with what I have seen."

Scotland's women went one better than the men, winning the Celtic Cup thanks to a 7-1 victory over Ireland in their final game
