Hockey: Inverleith’s Steve McCurry looking for improvement

INVERLEITH playcaller Steve McCurry is still looking for improvement from his hockey side despite a good weekend in the Presidents Cup.

They had a comfortable 4-1 win over Edinburgh rivals Watsonians on Saturday with the team being three goals to the good by half-time.

Scotland under-21 defender Chris Duncan claimed two of them from penalty corners after Lewis Gibson had opened the scoring. Duncan hit the post with another penalty corner effort before Phil Hall added a fourth. Watsonians’ loyal servant Magnus Ferrier netted two minutes from time.

“We’re still looking at formations and bedding newcomers in, but we’re making progress,” said McCurry.

Grange won 3-0 against Hillhead in their Pool B encounter.

Worse was to come for Watsonians when they were crushed 5-0 in a Pool A match against Grove in Dundee yesterday.
