Hockey: Inverleith blow title bid

Inverleith coach Stuart Neave today shrugged off his disappointment at losing the Division One indoor hockey title to issue a rallying call to his deflated squad.

The gutted coach watched in agony as Grove Menzieshill drew 4-4 with his talented side to retain the Scottish indoor title on Saturday night.

His dejected and exhausted squad looked on as the silverware was presented, and frustrated Neave said: “Europe was always our goal this season and we now have a second bite at the cherry in the Gala play-offs in two weeks.

“The guys have been fantastic and we have gone through the season unbeaten. However, we’ve slipped-up twice to Grange and I can’t explain why. That cost us.”

The story could have been different if influential German star Fabian Wolski had not missed from within four feet with two seconds left on the clock against Grange to draw 3-3.
